Exotic animals
The trade in exotic animals and plants is enormous. Most of the animals are taken brutally and rude from their natural habitat, stored and transported without proper care and send to America, Europe, China, Japan etc.
Many animals die before they reach the petshops. The survivors face a terrible future since they are very ill-treated in the petshops who are only interested in selling as much as possible, including medicines, food, etc.
They don't care if animals die because the import is still increasing. If there are less animals left in the wild the prices will go up.
As long as people demand exotic animals they will be provided. Only by changing laws and enforcing them this terrible trade can be slowed down.
After an animal is sold most of them are locked up in a totally wrong environment in which they slowly die because of stress, wrong food and light etc. Most animals are very sensitive, people don't realise this because these animals do not show their reactions and feelings like reptiles, amphibians etc. Stress occures very quickly: touching, looking, other animals, television, loud music etc.
Captive bread animals rarely have a better future in spite of the fact that they are not taken from the wild and transported.
The pictures in this album are taken from animals in our house. Some of them we found in bad conditions in petshops. We try to give them a loving, warm en respectful home.
There is hardly any control of the import and nursing of exotic animals. Very rare and aggresive species can be bought by anyone and treated the way they want it. Resulting in the slow death of many.
Almost every (wildcaught) animal will try his best to escape and many animals are dumped in parks and forests. A lot of dangerous animals try to survive in our environment. Many snakes, spiders, scorpions and other reptiles hide and survive (or die) our winters in houses.
Most animal shelters are over-crowded and can hardly take in more animals. Only some are officially sponsored by the government who does hardly any control about what happens with the animals. Many are sold again illegally and turn up in the trade again.
